Data Migration

What is Data Migration?

Data migration is the process of transferring digital information from one system, format or environment to another, typically as part of an upgrade, consolidation or cloud adoption initiative. It involves extracting data from the source system, transforming it to fit the new system's structure and loading it into the target system, which is commonly called the extract, transform, load (ETL) process.

Data migration projects can vary in complexity based on factors such as data volume, the compatibility of source and target systems and regulatory compliance requirements, and they require careful planning and execution to prevent data loss, corruption and performance issues.
